Union City’s Elementary basketball teams traveled to Verden for a tournament. The girls started out against Friend. The first quarter started out rough, Union City did not score but Friend scored 11 points. Coach Kelly Welch called a time out to give her girls a pep talk. In the second quarter Kiley Johnson scored 2 points, but Friend out scored them with 9 points for that quarter. The third quarter Friend scored 10 points and Union City responded with 4 points in the basket. The final quarter Friend scored 6 points. The final score was 36-6, with Friend taking the win. Kiley Johnson led the Lady Tigers with all 6 points.
The Union City boys also played Friend. The Tigers started out rough in the first quarter with no points, but Friend came out ready and scored 9 points. Union outscored Friend by 1 point in the second quarter. In the third, Union scored 2 points and Friend countered with 8 points. The fourth, Friend tallied up 10 more points, but Union only got 2 points. At the end of the game, Union had 10 points and Friend had 30 points.
