Round 2 of the Calumet Tournament has come and gone, and both Union City teams will advance to the Consolation finals on Saturday. The girls had a slow start when they played Darlington, but they came out with fire when they played Geary. The Tigers got first possession and turned that into quick points. The first quarter went quick with Union City putting 16 points up, and a trailing Geary with only 8.
The Geary girls were determined to catch back up, but Union City knew that they were getting into that Consolation game. Freshman, Anyssa Morales, scored 12 points during the game with 8th grader, Taytim Woods, following with 11. With halftime closing in Union City kept putting points up, and ended the half with a score of 29- 10.
After a quick half time break, the teams came out and got right back in it. With Union City pressuring Geary, they couldn’t handle the pressure and gave the Lady Tigers many layups. In the 3rd quarter, the ladies in blue added 11 more points to their lead, while Geary only put 2 up. In the fourth quarter, Coach Anderson slowly subbed in some young 7th graders, Morgan Carel made a free throw, and Savanah Walker made a 2 pointer to end the game. The final score was Union City 43 and Geary 15.
The Union City girls will play in the old gym at 11:00, and the Union City boys will play at 12:30 in the old gym. So be there or be square.
