The Union City Tigers played their third home game in the new gym against the Minco Bulldogs on Friday, December 1st. The Bulldogs and Tigers were competing to take home the W and bragging rights. The Tigers came out on top in the end with a score of 61-60. Union City and Minco have been rivals for years, the Tigers have won 2 out of the past 3 match ups. The Bulldogs had a total of 18 points holding the the Tigers with an 11 point lead by the end of the first quarter. Union City was down by seven starting the second quarter. The Tigers were able to hold Minco with 14 points while UC scored 21 points. Leaving the score at half-time 32-32.
Both Union City and Minco managed to keep there heads in the game and keep the energy up. Coming out of the locker room the teams were ready to start the second half. Union City put 12 more points on the board in the third quarter (Senior) Cail Williams having seven of the 12, Minco added 13. Beginning the final quarter The Bulldogs had a one point lead with a score of 45-44. The final quarter of play was one to remember. The Tigers took a commanding 6 point lead with only a few minutes to play but the Bulldogs battled back to take a one point lead with less than a minute to play. (Senior) Xavier Morales shot the game winning free throws in the final minute of play to take a 3 point lead. The Bulldogs had one last chance to tie it up with 4 seconds left. They missed a three pointer as the clock hit zero. The Tigers pulled out the victory by a score of 61-60.
(Senior) Xavier Morales and Cail Williams had a total of 45 points together.
The Tigers will be back in action this upcoming Thursday in the Bulldog Classic.
