The night of January 9, 2018 the Union City Tigers basketball teams took on Hydro-Eakly for two varsity games.
The Union City girls started out hot. Hunter Johnson scored the first 6 points for Union City. At one point Union City took a 15 point lead in the second quarter against the Lady Bobcats. At the end of the first half the Lady Tigers held on to a 3 points lead by a score of 27-24. Hydro rallied to go up on the Lady Tigers in the second half and eventually beat Union City by 11 points. This dropped the Lady Tigers record to 6-8. Hunter Johnson lead the Lady Tigers with 22 points. Alex Chipps added 17 of her own. Jamie Schieber had 4 points. Rylee Loudermilk and Anyssa Morales rounded out the scoring with 2 a piece.
The Union City Tigers dominated Hydro by a score of 67-39. However, much of the game was very close. The Tigers jumped out to a 16-5 lead at the end of one quarter but Hydro rallied back to tie up the score mid way through the second. In the second half, the Tigers dominated every aspect of the game. The Tigers spread the scoring out through 10 guys. Nando Pizano lead with 20 points and Kristof Dries rounded out the scoring by draining a 3 in the final minute of play.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will travel to SWC on Friday to take on the Patriots at 6:30.
