Tigers News · Basketball Season Has Come to an End

The Union City Tigers had a great run throughout the basketball season. The Lady Tigers had a record of 14-14, but put up a mighty fight all season. They made it all the way to Regionals, but sadly fell short to Central Marlow at a score of 25-24, a one point loss. Girls coach, Daniel Anderson, stated “(They) were a good group of girls, very reliable, very loyal. (They) worked hard, came to practice everyday, so that makes it fun for a coach throughout the year. I hate to see the season end by one point, with just not quite enough time to move on, but the girls should have a lot to be proud of.” He later goes on to congratulate the two players that made All Conference, Alex Chipps and Hunter Johnson. In remembrance to the season, Anderson would also like to mention highlights of this season, that including the Paden Tournament, winning Districts and playing to go to area. Amazing job to the Lady Tigers on their 2017-2018 basketball season.

The Union City boys basketball team also had a fantastic season, their record being 18-9, putting them at #19 in the state. From January 27th to February 15th, they were on a 5 game winning streak, until they fell short to Ft. Cobb during Regionals. “I am very proud of the fight and determination this team showed throughout the season.” Boys coach, Ryan Rennels, said, “Making area tournament is a very big accomplishment that they worked very hard to achieve. Any time your season ends, there is a disappointment and a wish to go further than you did, but I thought the boys fought regardless of the situation and that is something to be very proud of.” He added. The Tigers made it all the way to the first round of area, but unfortunately lost to Sterling in a score of 61-52. Rennels then went on to say, “These seven seniors have been tremendous leaders for us, on and off the floor and they will be missed. I appreciate everything they brought to this team and the excellent example they provided.” Seniors, Xavier Morales and Cail Williams, won All Conference 2018. A few season highlights include a 3rd place finish at the Bulldog Classic, District Champions and Regional Runner-up.

Congratulations to both teams on a hard worked and hard earned season.
