The Union City Lady Tigers opened their season on Thursday, March 1st. They defeated the Community Christian Royals with a score of 15-4. The Lady Tigers dominated the game by putting on a defensive showcase along with timely hitting.
The home team jumped out on top in the first inning 2-0, behind the bats of Alex Chipps, Allison Kaulaity, Melodie Turk, and Rylee Loudermilk who all reached base with hits. On the defensive side of the ball, pitcher Livia Nelson, held the Lady Royals to only 4 runs, while striking out 3. Throughout the night the Lady Tigers’ defense remained strong, behind the glove of senior, Alex Chipps, who made an incredible diving play up the middle to keep the Lady Royals from advancing further onto the board.
Offensively, the Tigers were unable to be stopped, putting up 15 total runs. In the third inning, sophomore Chelsea Morgan, ripped a line drive to right field, coming around to score for the first in the park home run of the season. Adding onto the offense, Kenadee Belcher, Hunter Johnson, Alycia Johns, and Caitlyn Maddox all managed to come up with clutch hits.
The Lady Tigers are back in action today, March 2nd, away against the Geary Lady Bison. Union City’s JH Lady Tigers will start off the night at 4:00, followed by the Varsity squad.
