Tigers News · Lady Tigers Go Out with a Bang in the 7th Inning


On Tuesday, April 17th, the Lady Tigers JH and HS teams faced the Ninnekah Lady Owls. It was the JH Tigers’ final game of the season, ending their year with a win of 14-4, with 6 wins total.

The Union City Tigers came out with a bit of a lazy start on the Owls. In the first inning, the Lady Tigers only managed to put 2 runs on the board, behind the bat of Junior, Melodie Turk. The Lady Owls caught up and took the lead in the second inning, the score being 3-2. Neither team added any runs until the fifth inning, where the Tigers fought back, with an in-the-park homerun from Junior, Livia Nelson, and a double from Sophomore, Brionah O’Neal, driving in another run. The score remained 4-4 until the seventh inning, where the Tigers came in determined to come out on top. The Lady Tigers broke the tie on an error, making the score 5-4. O’Neal drove in another run, followed by Turk. The following at bat scored another 2 runs, thanks to a double from Sophomore, Allison Kaulaity. Adding another run on the board, Sophomore, Kenadee Belcher, drove in Kaulaity, heading into the bottom of the seventh inning leading 10-4. The Lady Owls showed their best efforts to make a comeback, but was only able to put 2 more runs on the board. The final score was 10-6, with the Union City Tigers on top. Improving their record to 18-13.

The Union City Lady Tigers compete on Thursday, April 19th, in their class 2A Districts at Arapaho. Their first game is at 1:15 against The Geary Bison.
