The Union City Baseball and Softball season has come to an end. Although the season seemed to go by very quick, they both played some great games. The Tigers ended their season with a record of 16-6. Sadly, they fell short in the Championship game of districts. Coach, Ludy Griggs, said “We were very talented when we were focused. We lost our focus at the wrong time. I have to replace 7 starters next year, (but) we will be fine if I can get guys that play with passion and heart.” Zane Robeaux lead the team with a batting average of .439. Casey Bieber and Zane Robeaux also lead with the most home runs, having 2 each. At one point in the season, the Tigers ranked were ranked 13th.
The Lady Tigers also had a successful season. They also made it all the way to the Championship game of Districts and played their hearts out. “I’m really gonna miss our 4 seniors who are graduating, they will be very hard to replace. We had a really good season, we did a lot of good things and I am excited for the future of this program.” Coach, Cody Schmidt, stated. With a record of 20-15, Alex Chipps led the team in batting average with .606 and had a home run count of 8. The Lady Tigers also ranked 16th at one point in the season which is the highest the Union City Softball team has ever been ranked. Along with that, 20 is the highest games ever won in Lady Tigers Softball history, breaking two records just in a single season.
