The Union City Tigers Varsity baseball team traveled to Varnum for there annual tournament. In the first game of the night, the Union City Tigers won 7-0. Reed pitched a shut out game, only allowing two hits to help the Tigers in the victory.
The Union City Tigers didn’t earn a whole lot of runs but Wyatt Norton, Jason Scheiber and Bryson Hays all had RBI’s for the Union City Tigers in this blow out.
In the second game of the night the Union City Tigers played Varnum. Varnum’s bats were hot all game putting up 8 runs.
Joey Jessup pitched for the Union City Tigers and lasted 4 innings giving up 13 hits and 8 runs in the Tigers loss. Hayden Casey led the team in hits that night with a base hit. But the Tigers couldn’t get the momentum changed and lost 8-1.
Friday the Union City Tigers faces Glencoe. Freshman, Caleb McSpadden doubled in the 3rd to get things going to move over Blake Ross (running for Bryson Hays).
Glencoe’s hits and errors in the bottom of the 4th, had the Tigers down 5-0. In the bottom of the 6th the Tigers started to rally with a Bryson Hays double to left. A Nando Pizano hit by pitch and Kevin Bornemann base hit cut into the lead by a score of 5-2. The rally fell short in the end and the Tigers lost 5-3.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 vs Lomega.
