Middle School Fast Pitch Softball · Union City Splits in Heated Game

Union City JH softball and volleyball teams won two of three games played last night. Volleyball took the win 2-0 against Sharon-Mutual. Softball lost their first game against Destiny Christian 13-1, but won against Verden 10-6.

In game one of softball against Destiny Christian, Emily Griggs and Megan Fairless pitched and gave up a combined 6 earned runs. Errors proved costly for the Lady Tigers as 5 of the runs given up came in on errant throws. MaKenna Delong and Bailee Jackson supplied an offensive burst but it was not enough. DeLong scored the lone run for the Lady Tigers.

In game two against Verden, it became a very intense game. The Lady Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Haylie McCoy, Briseyda Walker, Kaitlyn Linson and Ally Easley scored each of those runs on pass balls. The Verden Tigers closed the gap, scoring three of their own to cut the lead to 4-3. Alexis Archer’s defense at third base helped keep Verden off the board. The Union City Lady Tigers had enough and piled on five more runs in the third inning as Emily Griggs and MaKenna DeLong added singles up the middle, Taytim Woods with a walk, and a triple by Morgan Carel to put the game out of reach. Kailee Jackson and Kylie McCoy also provided two of the Lady Tigers 4 hits in game two.

The Lady Tigers improved their record to 7-4 on the season and will travel to Ninnekah on Monday.
