The Union City Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled to Cement for the season opener against the bulldogs last Friday night. Coach Anderson and his girls came out with intensity to start out the season with the 49 – 41 victory. Having only 10 girls didn’t hold the ladies back from giving their all on the court.
UC started out the first quarter with a 10-7 lead. They continued the hot streak and extended the score to 19 – 18 going into halftime. In the first half, Jamie Schieber and Anyssa Morales combined for 11 of the 19 points. Foul trouble was the theme in the first half and it continued in the second half where both teams combined for 57 total fouls in the game.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers scored 11 points in the third quarter. Their defense only allowing the Lady Bulldogs 7 points.
In the fourth quarter, the ladies really turned it on offensively, outscoring the Bulldogs 19-16 with freshman, Taytim Woods scoring 14 of the 19 points. Seniors, Hunter Johnson, Jamie Schieber and Livia Nelson all fouled out and Union City had to call upon the underclassmen to step up and seal the victory. The Lady Tigers will look to improve to 2-0 on Tuesday night at 6:30. They will play Verden in the home opener. Come out and support your Union City teams in your 80’s gear.
