The Lady Tigers traveled to Minco to take part in the Minco Tournament this past weekend. The Lady Tigers drew the fourth seed and matched up with Watonga for the first round. The girls knew that this was their last year to play in the Minco Tournament and they wanted to leave their mark.
UC vs Watonga
In the Watonga game, the Lady Tigers managed to put up 9 points in the first quarter and allowing the Lady Eagles to put up only 6. In the second quarter, the Lady Tigers added 13 to the board and only allowed 6 more for the Eagles to finish the half with a score 22-12. In the second half, the Lady Tigers put up 16 between both quarters and giving up 20 to the Lady Eagles but managed to pull out the 38-32 win and advance to the second round of the tournament.
Senior, Hunter Johnson lead the scoring with 12. Sophomore Anyssa Morales and junior, Livia Nelson added 10 and 9 of their own.
UC vs Lookeba-Sickles
For the second round, the Lady Tigers matched up with the #6 ranked Lookeba- Sickles Lady Panthers. In the first quarter, the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Tigers by a score of 12-9 but the girls came out in the second quarter and played some shut down defense, holding the Panthers to only 6 points and adding 15 of their own. Leaving the score at halftime 24-18 in favor of the girls in blue. In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers added 14 points compared to the Lady Panthers 16.
In the fourth quarter the girls knew defense was going to be the deciding factor as 4 of the starting 5 were in foul trouble. Moving the ball and watching their fouls, the Lady tigers outscored the Panthers 12-10 which sent them to the championship game. The final score was 50-44.
Five of the Lady Tigers added to the scoring. Hunter Johnson with 16, Anyssa Morales 10, Taytim Woods 14, Livia Nelson 9, and Laila Goad 1.
UC vs Minc0 (Championship game)
The Lady Tigers matched up with their rivals, the Minco Lady Bulldogs for the Championship game. In the first quarter the Lady Tigers put up 7 along with the Lady Bulldogs. In the second quarter, the girls in blue added 8 but allowed the Lady Bulldogs 19. In the second half the Lady Tigers couldn’t seem to get very many of their shots to fall as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away with the 60-32 win over the Lady Tigers.
Hunter Johnson lead the ladies with 8 points. Jamie Schieber, Taytim Woods and Anyssa Morales each had 6 points. Livia Nelson added 5 points and Laila Goad rounded out the scoring with 1.
