This past weekend, Union City traveled to Paden, OK for the 7th consecutive year to compete in the Paden Invitational Tournament. In the past, UC has had some pretty good outcomes. The girls have had previous success winning Runner-Up, Champions, Champions, Champions, and Runner-Up. Going into the tournament the Lady Tigers had a 3 game win streak, they won the first two games to advance to the championship to make it 5 in a row. However, their winning streak was snapped as the Lady Tigers fell to the Paden Lady Pirates in the championship game.
In the first round, Union City played Carney and won in dominate fashion 53-29. The leading scorers for round one were Hunter Johnson with 24 and Jamie Schieber with 10. In the second round, the mindset was strictly defense for both Depew and UC. The Lady Tigers found a way to win in a low score affair 23-15.
The last and final round UC struggled to score in the first half, only putting up 8 going into the locker room while the Paden Lady Pirates could not miss, scoring 28. The Lady Tigers came out of the locker room after halftime ready to fight back. The Lady Tigers fell short 53- 31. Leading scorers for the final round were Hunter Johnson with 20 and following was Taytim Woods with 6.
The Lady Tigers now are 14-7 on the season.
The Union City boys team snapped a losing streak in the second round of the Paden Tournament by defeating Weleetka 61-52. In the consolation game, Union City dominated Mason by a score of 64-34. Jason Schieber led the Tigers in scoring with 23. Nandon Pizano collected 14 points.
The Tigers improved their record to 7-12.
Tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 29th is senior night against Corn Bible Academy at 6:30 at the Tiger Arena. Come out and support your Tigers and Lady Tigers!
