After a four day weekend, on Tuesday Sept. 3rd, the Lady Tigers traveled to Cashion to take on the Lady Wildcats for the 2nd time this year. In the first meeting, the Lady Tigers won by a score of 12-9. However, this game did not go as well. UC did take an early 1-0 lead that they hung onto for the first 4 innings of the game but the Lady Tigers left to many girls on base and were unable to capitalize on Cashion’s mistakes. The Lady Tigers came up short losing to Cashion 10-2. Erica Rodgers lead the offense with 2 of the Lady Tigers 4 hits on the day.
The Tigers had a long practice on Wednesday hoping to wake them up and get them ready to play on Thursday Sept. 5th against Verden and they did just that. The Lady Tigers, in ALL BLUE, took advantage of many walks to score 14 runs in 2 innings. Senior, Brionah O’neal lead the team in RBI’s with 3 total. Sophomore, Kylie McCoy added two of her own. Lady Tigers pitcher, Mackinzie DeLong pitched all three innings allowing only 2 hits and 1 run.The Lady Tigers came out on top 14-1.
The second game of the doubleheader was much of the same. However, in the first inning the Lady Tigers in blue scored 11 runs.. Also, during the first inning UC had three true inside the park homeruns, back to back to back to right field, Freshmen MaKenna DeLong, Senior, Brionah O’Neal and the last one was from Senior Allison Kaulaity. In the second inning Union City put up 6 more runs making the score 17-0. Allison Kaulaity and Sabrie Locke had 2 RBI’s a piece and Chelsea Morgan tacked on another stolen base on the season.
Freshmen, Emily Griggs threw a no hitter and struck out 5, helping the Lady Tigers come out on top. The Lady Tigers now sit mid season with a record of 5-8 and will be back in action on Tuesday at home.
