The Lady Tigers traveled to the Hinton Tournament on Thursday. This tournament was made up of tough competition from all around the state.  The ladies started their busy day against Hydro. The Tigers started off slow losing to the Hydro girls 10-3. The Lady Tigers knew they had to fight to stay in the tournament.

The Union City Tigers faced the Calumet girls for the third time hoping to come out with a victory. The Lady Tigers got on the board immediately in the first inning when  Allison Kaulaity stepped to the plate with runners on base and hit a double to center to help the girls in blue take a 2-0 lead. The bottom of the 2nd Calumet got it tied up with the Tigers. However, the Union City Tigers started swinging the bats increasing the score eventually 9-3. Seniors, Brionah O’Neal, and Allison Kaulaity hit triples helping the girls move around the bases. The Union City Tigers girls came out of that game 9-6 and were set to take on Cashion.

The Union girls had played them at the beginning of the season, winning the first game then losing the next. The team knew how they played and pitched, and they knew it would be a fight. Freshman, Mackinzie DeLong got the start on the mound. The Union defense was on fire holding the game 0-0 until the top of the third inning until the Cashion girls scored 2. The game got tied up in the bottom of the 4th 3-3, when freshmen, Makenna DeLong hit a line drive down the third base line. The game eventually went into extra innings. The Union defense went on strong throughout the innings, the game was a nail bitter and had the audience on the edge of the seat. However, in the top of the 8th Cashion took a 1 run lead but then in the bottom of the 8th inning with the score tied up 4-4. Senior, Chelsea Morgan stepped up in the batter’s box with bases loaded and one hit and hit a flyball just out of the reach of the second basemen allowing Kylie McCoy to score from third and send the Tigers to round 4 with another win.

The girls then move on to the #2 ranked team Roff. The game was tied up 0-0 till the middle of the second inning when Roff scored 1. The Union girls defense was still going strong with their 3 up 3 down innings. The Union City Tigers got their bats going in the top of the 4th when Senior Allison Kaulaity got on base with a single up the middle. Senior, Brionah O’Neal hit a line drive down the right field line for a triple which brought in the games first runs. Sophomore, Kylie McCoy added to the lead with a line drive up the middle to bring in O”Neal. The Lady Tigers led until the 5th inning by a score 3-1. Unfortunately, Roff put up a few runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a lead and win the game 6-3.

The Lady Tigers finished the day going 2-2 and improving their record to 7-12.

On Friday, Union City traveled to Dover and made quick work of the Lady Longhorns beating them 15-0. McKinzie DeLong pitched 3 innings only allowing one hit. Senior, Erica Rodgers hit a double, helping the girls rack up runs. The Tigers stacked on the offense with a total of 11 hits. Senior, Allison Kaulaity, Kenadee Belcher and Junior, Sabrie Locke, all had 2 hits. McCoy and Kaulaity had 3 RBI’s. The girls ended the evening with a win.

Monday the Union City Tigers play at home against Okarche at 4:30, then Thursday they play Hennessey at 4:30. Come out and support the Union girls.
