The Lady Tigers are putting in a lot of work in preparation for the 2019/2020 season. This year’s team is small but powerful. The ladies have been scrimmaging teams to get ready for their season opener at home on November 1st.
The seven girls are determined to show their strength on the court, with two returning starters junior, Laila Goad, and sophomore, Taytim Woods. Woods disclosed that she is “looking forward to playing and getting closer with this team of girls.” This year’s team is very young, so they’re doing a lot of learning. However, the Lady Tiger’s lack in numbers isn’t all bad. Everyone has the opportunity to grow a lot this year and it will be a tough team. It is sometimes challenging with such a small team to get a realistic game view during practice. Managers senior, Brionah O’Neal, and sophomore, Justice Jones, help out a lot during practices, going above normal managing responsibilities and joining in.
Head Coach, Daniel Anderson, has been coaching for fourteen years, nine of those being here at Union City. He stated “I’m really looking forward to this season. We may not have a big team as far as numbers go, but everybody playing on this team has a giant heart, and that is more important than anything. This will be a fun year, and I’m excited to see how the girls grow throughout the next few months.”
The girls are really looking to “make a difference” this season. Once, Coach Anderson advised Taytim to make a difference during a game, so now the ladies like to give incentives to each other by telling one another to “make a difference”. The Lady Tigers would also like to make it known that “wimps need not apply” because they’re such a strong team. Catch these strong girls in action at homecoming this Friday night.
