Tigers News · Tigers Drop Two in Longhorn Classic

On Thursday, January 9th, the Union City Tigers began the Alex Longhorn Classic.  They competed against the Ninnekah Owls but fell short with a score of 60-50. The Tigers started off the first quarter down but caught back up. The quarter ended with a 3 point buzzer beater from Tyler Ross, which was a big momentum swing for the team. The score was tied at half time 26-26. They were up 31-26 two minutes into the third quarter. The Ninnekah Owls took the lead and held on the rest of the game. Senior, Nando Pizano lead the team with 24 points. Sophomore, Skyler Kimberlin led the team with 11 rebounds. Duvall stated “The boys have been struggling at the free throw line but have been working to get their percentage up.”

On Friday, the Tigers came back looking for a win against the Wayne Bulldogs. They fought hard but fell short and ended with a loss of 53-38. The entire first quarter was back and forth, The Tigers ended the quarter down by one. Sophomore, Rustin Dawson came off the bench and scored five of the Tiger’s 38.  The boys fought hard, but could not get back their momentum. Pizano also led the Wayne game in points with nineteen total, and assists with 3. Senior, Bryson Hays took the lead in rebounds with 5.  

Catch the Tigers back in action this Friday against Southwest Covenant at Yukon Highschool.
