Union City’s baseball and softball seasons are fast approaching. The Tigers have their first game of the season tomorrow against Cheyenne-Reydon, the location is still to be determined. The Lady Tigers will kick off their season with a home opener against Geary and Dover on Monday.
The Lady Tigers are returning eight starters from last year’s twenty-one win season. This year the ladies have their eyes set on winning the first ever district title and going deep into playoffs. With 6 seniors, who’ve played together all through their high school careers, this season should be a good one. Coach Schmidt excitedly stated “We have the opportunity to be very good but it is not going to happen just because we think it will. We have to put the work in each day to get where we want to be at the end of the season. “When asked what makes this season different than others he stated, “This group has meshed well together since late July, we are very deep with 19 girls playing.”
The Tigers are returning eight starters from their previous season as well. Coach Ludy Griggs stated “I am looking forward to the spring season. We have been working hard each day to be more unified and work as a team. The moral is great and the boys are excited” when asked how he felt about the upcoming season. The Tigers went 9 – 10 last fall and are looking to make a strong comeback during the spring. This year the boys are graduating three seniors : Caleb Reid, Bryson Hays, and Reed Miller.
We hope to see you supporting our Tigers and Lady Tigers as they dive into their spring seasons!
