Tigers News · Lady Tigers Split/Tigers Improve to 3-1

The Union City Tigers have had a strong start to their fall season. The boys currently have a record of 3-1. On Tuesday, the Tigers played Southwest Covenant and Cement. In the first game of the day, the Tigers faced off against Southwest Covenant. The boys in blue beat Covenant 3-1. Senior, Reed Miller, faced off against the Patriots and only allowed two hits. He had 9 strikeouts in 5 innings of play. The Tigers racked up 6 hits total. Junior, Josh Morrison, had a double down the third baseline that scored two runners. Another junior, Tyler Ross, singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. The boys kept their heads high as they moved into the second game of the night. 

The Tigers came out with more energy than ever and jumped on the Cement Bulldogs with a final of 21-4. Sophomore, Shane McNeil, had 8 first-pitch strikes and struck out four batters. Ross led the team with RBI’s and hits, with four in each category in three quick innings. Seniors, Reed Miller and Caleb Reid, followed up with two hits apiece. 

You can catch the boys in blue will be back in action at home this Friday at 4:30 against Casady.

Lady Tigers Softball traveled to Fletcher this Thursday, March 5th. They faced Grandfield and Fletcher. 

The first game was against Grandfield. The Lady Tigers came off victorious with a score of 15-6. Senior, Allison Kaulaity led the team with 4 hits out of 5 at-bats. Junior, Emily Loughridge led the team with 3 RBI’s. Senior, Chelsea Morgan led the ladies with 3 runs scored. The Lady Tigers had 19 hits throughout the game. Senior, Arin Karbs led things off in the circle. She had 17 first-pitch strikes and one strikeout. 

The Lady Tigers battled against Fletcher in the second game. They fell short with a score of 15-11. In the first inning, the Lady Tigers had 4 runs scored, Fletcher followed up scoring 5. The team knew they had to keep up and score runs. Fletcher scored in every inning while Union City only scored in 3. In the 7th inning, The Lady Tigers were down 15-7. With two runners on base Freshman, Mackinzie DeLong hit a line drive double to centerfield scoring both runners. UC kept threatening with great at-bats by Kenna DeLong and Kaitlyn Linson to extend the inning. The Lady Tigers couldn’t get them all in, ending the game losing 15-11. Kaulaity, Loughridge, and DeLong all led the team with 2 RBI’s each. Karbs led the team in hits with 3. O’Neal, Kenna DeLong, and Morgan led the Lady Tigers with 2 runs scored each.
