The Union City Tigers traveled to Ninnekah yesterday. The boys were victorious 14-1. Braydon Armstrong, sophomore, threw a complete game on the mound. Armstrong allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out seven. Not only did Armstrong throw a complete game and shut down the Owls offense but he also went 4 for 4 at the plate and lead the Tigers in hits.
The Tigers were on top of things and didn’t commit a single error. Freshman, Dalton Stout lead the Tiger in plays with six in total. The boys in blue started off hot with five runs in the first inning. The second inning was slow, but as the innings progressed the momentum started picking up in the third and the Tigers scored nine runs in the fourth inning, swinging the momentum up to the max.
The Tigers varsity team has been on a hot winning streak. Head Coach Ludy Griggs stated “My guys are buying in at times on “small ball” and executing at times. We just have good chemistry and no one stands out….. we just play hard and keep grinding all the way through. When we throw strikes, our defense has been making the plays to get us off the field to get our bats going.”
The Tigers improved their record to 12-2 and will be back in action at home this Friday against Mulhall and Sante Fe South.
